Storks is a kilim in an Art Nouveau aesthetic, distinctly pre-dating the geometric modernist designs structured according to a rigorous and consistent manner. Storks consists of multiple splashes of color that flow softly across the fabric in a fashion characteristic of fin de siècle artists. Its Art Nouveau provenance is also made evident by the stylized grass ornament at the bottom of the textile. Storks transports us to an idyllic moment, where the sheer wonder of them flying low over meadows allows us to forget that we are dealing with a work that was masterfully woven by the most experienced of craftswomen.
